Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2024 is set to be one of the year’s most prominent international trade events, showcasing Indonesia's wide range of export products and services while fostering global business collaboration. The event, which is organized by the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, has grown over the years to become a key platform for businesses and government entities from around the world to forge connections, exchange knowledge, and explore trade opportunities with Indonesia.

Event Overview

TEI 2024 will take place from October 9 to 12, 2024, at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City, near Jakarta. This marks the 39th edition of the event, continuing a long tradition of boosting Indonesia’s exports, promoting investment, and fostering economic ties between Indonesia and its international partners.

The theme for this year is "Sustainable Trade for Global Prosperity," reflecting Indonesia's commitment to promoting environmentally friendly practices and

sustainable business growth. The event emphasizes Indonesia's potential in sectors such as green energy, eco-friendly products, and sustainable agriculture, aligning with global goals toward reducing carbon footprints and fostering a green economy.

Key Highlights of TEI 2024

  1. Diverse Exhibitors: TEI 2024 will feature over 1,500 exhibitors from various sectors including agriculture, textiles, electronics, manufacturing, creative industries, and furniture. Notably, the focus on emerging industries like renewable energy and digital services underscores Indonesia's efforts to diversify its export portfolio and appeal to the global market.

  2. Buyer-Seller Meetings: One of the highlights of TEI is its structured Business Matching Program, which provides tailored opportunities for buyers and sellers to connect and negotiate deals. This initiative has been integral to increasing the number of business transactions, with many exhibitors leaving the event with successful contracts.

  3. Investment Forum: The Investment Forum at TEI offers a space for stakeholders to discuss foreign investment opportunities in Indonesia’s thriving industries. The country’s growing infrastructure, manufacturing sectors, and conducive government policies have attracted attention from foreign investors, particularly in the areas of technology and industrial development.

  4. Trade and Investment Seminars: To enhance participants' understanding of Indonesia’s business climate, TEI 2024 will host numerous seminars covering topics such as trade policies, market access, investment opportunities, and strategies for entering the Indonesian market. These sessions will be led by experts from various industries, providing valuable insights for both established businesses and startups.

Impact on Indonesia's Economy

Over the years, TEI has proven to be a significant catalyst for boosting Indonesia’s export sector. In 2023, TEI generated more than $15 billion in trade transactions, according to the Ministry of Trade, a record high despite global economic challenges. For 2024, the government is optimistic about increasing this figure, especially with the focus on sustainable trade and expanding Indonesia’s presence in new markets across Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.

The expo plays a pivotal role in promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from Indonesia. The platform allows SMEs to showcase their products to an international audience, helping them grow beyond the domestic market. This support aligns with Indonesia's long-term strategy to strengthen SMEs as a vital component of the economy.

A Strategic Move Toward Global Sustainability

As part of Indonesia’s Vision 2045, which aims to position the country as one of the world’s largest economies, TEI is crucial in ensuring the country’s exports meet international standards. The emphasis on sustainability is expected to attract businesses that value environmentally conscious practices, especially those from the European Union and other regions where demand for sustainable products is high.

This push for sustainability also mirrors global trends in supply chain transparency and environmental responsibility, which are increasingly important for international buyers. Indonesia’s commitment to expanding its eco-friendly product range, from organic textiles to renewable energy technologies, aligns with these demands.

TEI's Global Reach

TEI attracts more than 30,000 visitors annually, including buyers, investors, trade professionals, and government representatives from over 150 countries. Its global reach, combined with Indonesia's growing reputation as a reliable trade partner, makes it a must-attend event for businesses looking to expand their operations into Southeast Asia and beyond.

The expo will also see the participation of Indonesia's diplomatic missions abroad, helping facilitate cross-border relationships and promote Indonesian products and services in foreign markets.
